Listening to the radio this morning, the host explained the meaning behind the The Staples Singers’ song Respect Yourself.  It was written as a sort of anthem for African Americans; telling people that if you don’t respect yourself no one else will.

“The song had resonance for a burgeoning self-empowerment movement for African-Americans during the post-civil-rights-movement 1970s, as well as women demanding more respect during those same years, but the message had a universal and inspirational appeal.” ~ Wikipedia

How true their message is to this day.  Being in HR, I think it applies so well to the workplace.  If you model respect you will be respected; respecting others will become easier because you will look for their abilities and contributions.

Perhaps today is a good day to find the things you like about you and give yourself some credit for it.
