Michele Dorsey

(CEO, Lawyer, Senior Consultant)

Michele DorseyAfter graduating from UNB Law School, Michele began practicing family law where she honed her skills in managing difficult relationships. Recognizing that her strengths lie in negotiation, she ventured into the labour world. In 1992 Michele was appointed Chair of the Labour Relations Board of Prince Edward Island. Seeing the commonalities between family and labour, Michele transitioned to a full-time practice in labour relations and human resources in 1996. Since that time, she has become a well-respected HR/LR practitioner. Focused on the elements that make relationships work, Michele has combined her experience and knowledge to build strong relationships with her clients and those they work with.

Michele understands the fundamental principles that ground human relationships. She uses this intrinsic understanding to develop an empathetic approach in finding solutions for conflict. In working through difficult situations with her clients, Michele establishes a foundation of trust and credibility that allows clients to work through big changes and strengthen their primary relationships.

Mergers, amalgamations and acquisitions all involve significant human resource issues. Michele has far-reaching experience in leading large-scale change for various employers. Her experience in working through the complex problems involved in combining work forces demonstrates her proven ability to minimize problems and maximize solutions to organizational change challenges.

Michele is a believer in the power of community and works hard to give back to hers. Other professional organizations that Michele is involved with include:

  • PEI Family Violence Prevention, Board Member
  • Mental Health Commission of Canada, Family Caregiver’s Advisory Subcommittee Member
  • CHANCES Family Center, Co-Chair
  • PEI Newcomers to Canada, Board Member
  • Criminal Code Review, Board Chair

“I strongly believe the way in which we do our work in the labour and employment field, can apply very successfully to other legal relationships.”

– Michele Dorsey

Gabe Sanderson

Gabe Sanderson

Gabe has been an integral part of Michele Dorsey Law since it’s inception in 2011; handling financial administration, IT services, and business development.   To supplement his hand-on experience, Gabe decided to return to school in September 2012 to pursue a degree in economics at the University of Prince Edward Island.  Since dollars and cents are where his true passion lies, he now performs a more focused roll at MDL as the firm’s Financial Administrator.   Although he spends most of his time dealing with financial statements, the office calls upon Gabe for advice on nearly everything.  He has a wholesome sense of the company’s needs and sees to it that all these needs are met.  Clients and staff know that if they’ve got a question, or need some advice, they can “just call Gabe”.

Maria Sanderson

Maria Sanderson

Maria has been a contributor to the growth of MDL since joining in 2011.  Her role continues to evolve, as she supports marketing, business development, and communication functions within the company.  Over the years, Maria has developed a keen interest in law – from both a business perspective and as a result of her undergrad work at the University of Prince Edward Island.  Following this pursuit, she is very excited to be studying law at Dalhousie University, beginning in September 2013.  There is no doubt that the skills she will be developing while in Halifax will help build her keen business sense, and when not studying, you will find her in the MDL office, playing an active role in the company’s success.
